So, not the most auspicious start, but I bought a 16-pack of organic seeds from Costco for $20. I’m still going to add in some other plants/not use every packet, but with seeds coming in at $3.00 a pack in my neck of the woods, it felt like a good deal. It comes with some very clever packaging, with the seeds marked as “herbs,” “salsa,” “fruits,” and “salad.” I’m definitely going to try doing more herbs than this, more lettuces, okra, and more peppers. Also, I am buying some tomatoes and peppers as plants, because time has shown me that trying to start several dozen plants in my small house is a bad idea.
This week in homeschool, we will be using the book Carrots Love Tomatoes to plan out our 20×30 foot community garden. By we, I probably mean that I will be planning the garden and the kids will be…doing something else entirely.
I will also be contemplating buying a pop-up canopy so that when I’m toiling away in the hot sun, I errr, won’t be in the hot sun. I’m hoping I can convince other gardeners to come help me in my shady canopy, and then move it to their garden, and I’ll help them. It’ll be less lonely that way. Also, basically everyone weeds faster than I do, so I’ll probably come out ahead…
Now, I just an experienced gardener to tell me all the secrets.
